Getting Here

Getting to Bald Head Island is half of the fun! There are no cars on the islands, only golf carts! With that being said, you will leave all your worries and cars behind on the mainland and catch a ferry over to the island. Your car will stay in a secured lot at Deep Point Marina until you return home. The ferry ride is approximately 20 minutes, and you will then catch a scheduled tram to your house. All tram services are included with the price of a ferry ticket, but please remember to make tram reservations for both your arrival and departure, prior to your arrival on BHI. Please see below for more information regarding ferry and tram reservations.  All houses come with golf carts to use during your stay. We know this can be be confusing, so please let us know if you need help with any of your transportation needs!

There are three large commercial airports that you can use to access the island ferry.  Wilmington International Airport (ILM) is the closest airport to the island and is approximately a 40 minute drive to Deep Point Marina.  However, the Raleigh-Durham Airport (RDU) often has better selection of flights, but is a 2.5 hour drive to the marina.  Additionally, the Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR) is about 1.5 hours away from the marina.

Taxi services from ILM to Deep Point Marina can be arranged by several taxi services, including the following http://angelstaxi.com/baldhead-island.html

For private or chartered flights, the New Hanover International Airport in Wilmington, N.C., is just 35 miles north of Southport, and the Myrtle Beach Jetport is 60 miles south.  Additionally, Cape Fear Regional Jetport/Howie Franklin Field Airport is a public, non-commercial airport located nearby on Oak Island. Please call 910.457.6483 for more information or visit http://www.airnav.com/airport/KSUT.  Ground transportation from the airport to the ferry terminal can be arranged.

Via Highway 17, Southport is 30 miles south of Wilmington, N.C. and 60 miles north of Myrtle Beach, S.C. From points west, Interstate 40 and Highway 74/76 link the region directly with I-95.

Bald Head Island's main land ferry terminal at Deep Point Marina is located at 1301 Ferry Road in Southport, NC, just before the state-operated Southport-Fort Fisher Ferry Landing. Entering Southport on Route 211 South (Howe Street), take a left on East Moore Street and then a right onto Ferry Road at the roundabout. Proceed about a half mile and then turn right into the entrance to Deep Point Marina, following the signs to the ferry terminal.

Please note that access to Bald Head Island is limited to the BHI Ferry.  Upon arrival, you will pull up to the marina pavilion and the staff will help you unload your luggage and will load it on to the ferry for you.  After you have unloaded, you will park your vehicle in a secure lot at the Deep Point Marina.  The ferry runs every hour, on the hour from the mainland to the island and every half hour from the island to the mainland.  Since, there are no vehicles on the island, tram reservations are required, and should be confirmed three days in advance by calling 910.457.5003. Please arrive at the ferry terminal at least 30 minutes before your scheduled departure time.
